About Zulu Rock Lodge - Babanango Game Reserve
High on a mountainside overlooking the rolling hills of the brand-new Babanango Game Reserve, the completely reimagined Zulu Rock Lodge offers the opportunity to immerse yourself in the distinctive heritage of the Zulu people in the centre of their cultural heartland.
Offering truly breathtaking panoramic views over some of the most spectacular scenery in KwaZulu-Natal, this comfortable, fully catered lodge draws its inspiration from the vibrant Zulu culture and is surrounded by Babanango Game Reserve’s 22,000ha of African wilderness.
This malaria-free reserve is home to a stretch of the legendary White Umfolozi River and a wealth of wildlife species, from plains game like kudu, zebra, bushbuck and giraffe to hippo, leopard, buffalo, rhino and hyena. There are plans to reintroduce the remainder of the Big Five over the next two years.

It is a form of humanism which can be expressed in the phrases ‘I am because of who we all are’ and ubuntu ngumuntu ngabantu in Zulu language.) is alive and well here at Babanango Game Reserve, where we work hand-in-hand with the local communities to realise a shared dream of a better tomorrow.
Just 50km from the town of Vryheid in the heart of KwaZulu-Natal’s Zululand region, the reserve is a groundbreaking conservation project being undertaken by African Habitat Conservancy, a pioneering NGO established to support the conservation of African wildlife in the area through investment and community development.
It has seen private game farms and land owned by the communities brought together to form the reserve, with hundreds of local people benefitting through employment, skills development and community outreach programmes.
Your stay at Zulu Rock Lodge will have a tangible purpose and contribute to the protection of endangered species as well as the upliftment of local people.

Taking our inspiration from the beautiful natural environment that surrounds us, the lodge is dominated by absolutely incredible views of Babanango Game Reserve’s impressive, undulating landscape.
Set against this impressive backdrop, the guest rooms have been built to completely blend in with their environment and seem to become one with the mountainside on which they perch, like giant eagles observing their vast territory.
Dining at Zulu Rock Lodge is an event in its own right and your stay at Zulu Rock Lodge includes three wonderful, home-cooked meals each day, prepared with love by our talented chefs and made with fresh, locally sourced ingredients.
