The Ocean Terrace

With its unobstructed sea views, signature candy-stripe décor and wide-ranging menu of bistro-style plates, The Ocean Terrace has become a firm favourite with both in-house guests and local visitors, who return time and again to enjoy family-friendly al fresco dining in sunny Umhlanga.

About The Ocean Terrace

The extensive menu offers something for every palate, with a well-priced selection of dishes inspired by both the freshest local produce and South Africa's diverse culinary heritage. Seafood is a particular speciality, while wood-fired pizzas and the famous Curry Buffet add even more choice for diners.

The Ocean Terrace offers a generous breakfast buffet (open to resident guests and visitors, on reservation) daily, with an à la carte menu for lunch and dinner.

Incredible curry buffet

The Curry Buffet in the Ocean Terrace Restaurant continues to attract fans from far and wide. Set in the casual, Mediterranean-inspired Ocean Terrace, with gorgeous views across the Indian Ocean, the impressive curry selection, of at least 11 curries daily, includes meat, fish and vegetarian options. Using delicate blends of spices and fresh herbs, each curry is a masterpiece in itself.

Every day at least 11 curries are served, including a range of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, with Executive Chef Kevin Joseph and his team of talented chefs handcrafting each curry using raw spices and fresh herbs from local traders.

The delicate flavours of Singapore Fish Curry takes full advantage of the bountiful fresh seafood caught by local boats, while the fiery-hot Beef Vindaloo is a firm favourite with regulars. Vegetarians will delight in the Vegetable Korma and Sugar-Bean Curry, while the traditional Durban Lamb Curry has long been a signature dish of The Oyster Box.

Alongside the pots of steaming curry, traditional tandoori ovens turn out aromatic Tandoori Chicken and piping hot naan breads, while fresh homemade condiments include pickles, chutneys, raitas, sambals and papadums.
