Post Lock Down Family Getaway to the Eastern Cape

Hopewell Private Game Reserve is an exclusive 5 Star Graded safari hideaway where unspoilt nature meets pure African luxury.

Situated in South Africa’s beautiful malaria-free Eastern Cape, close to the Addo National Park, Hopewell hosts a maximum of 12 guests in stylish and secluded luxury accommodation with sweeping views over a reclaimed Eden. Waking up to the sounds and sights of the African bush, sundowners above the elephants’ favourite watering hole, relaxing in a private pool overlooking the bush, and sumptuous dinners under the stars provide memories that linger long after your stay.

Passionate and experienced rangers guide guests through the rolling landscape ever willing to stop and discuss the game, plants, flowers, birds and insects spotted along the way.

Guests are likely to encounter our herd of elephant, buffalo, hippo, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, leopard, warthog, various antelope and other indigenous species carefully introduced to maintain a balanced eco-system.

This African safari getaway is a must ‘do’. Ideal for couples, families, romantic honeymoon or informative safari and wildlife experience!

Location

Situated in malaria-free coastal valley bushveld, Hopewell is just a 40-minute drive from Nelson Mandela Bay or the Port Elizabeth airport and offers the ideal destination for those seeking privacy, exclusivity, tranquility and adventure. A wonderful start or end to your driving trip along the famous Garden Route or a short flight from Cape Town, Durban or Johannesburg. Kenton-on-Sea and Port Alfred are close for beaches or golf courses as well as historical Grahamstown/Rhodes University. International Ironman championships are hosted annually in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Guests enjoy exclusive access to the 6600-acre reserve where the owners have made a principled conservation investment in restoring the indigenous East Cape Thicket and natural wildlife.

Seasons & what to wear

Summer (October to March): The Eastern Cape has a warm summer climate, but the deep shade of the bush and sometimes breezy weather means layered clothing and a wind-breaker are recommended for game drives. For the heat of the day and balmy summer evenings, bring lightweight summer clothing and beachwear.

Winter (April to September): Mornings and late afternoon/evenings are chilly, but temperatures in the bush often warm up during the day. We suggest layered, light clothing for daytime and a warm insulated jacket for morning and evening game drives.

Remember to bring: Binoculars and camera, comfortable walking shoes, sunhats, sunglasses and sunscreen.
