About Fordoun Hotel & Spa

Fordoun Hotel and Spa is an award winning five-star luxury boutique hotel and spa located near Nottingham Road in the scenic KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. It is a family owned and managed destination with a history dating back to the 1800’s. Fordoun has a strong ethos on personalised hospitality and authenticity. The hotel comprises 22 luxurious, comfortable individually styled rooms and the relatively new addition self-catering farm village offering 9 fully equipped cottages, a chapel and a wedding/conference venue.

With panoramic views of the Drakensberg, in a tranquil country setting, the feeling of romance is almost tangible. Fordoun was created with the vision that every guest should leave feeling rejuvenated, find value in their Fordoun experience and change guests’ lives!

Accommodation

The charming new Farm Village welcomes families with modern self-contained cottages around an idyllic village green, perfect for picnics or perhaps an impromptu game of cricket. Children delight in visiting the farmyard animals and chickens, and trying their hand at fishing. Each chalet is well equipped with fully fitted kitchen, fireplace, DSTV, DVD player, barbecue and serviced daily.

Although the Farm Village is separate to the Hotel, Skye Bistro and Spa, there is a synergy between the two establishments. Adults staying at the Farm Village have access to the facilities up at the Hotel. The Farm Village is very much family focused and by choice, not 5 star graded like the hotel.

The Chalets are fully catered with linen, bath towels (one per person so bring along more should you require), kitchen crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils and glasses. All you will need to bring is your food, clothes, and personal toiletries. One bag of charcoal and fire lighters is provided during your stay and daily cleaning service.

All bedrooms have en-suite bathrooms with a bath and a shower. Unfortunately, there are no amenities supplied, however, there is hand soap for the basin. Being a self-catering chalet, guests are required to bring their own toiletries and extra towels.

Guests staying in our self-catering chalets are most welcome to make use of the Skye Restaurant and Fordoun Spa, however, bookings need to be made in advance to avoid any disappointment.

We understand that for many of our guests, a holiday is not the same without the family pet. All well-socialised, well-behaved dogs are welcome but please keep them off the furniture and beds. They must be on leash while walking on the farm!

Breakfast is served from 07:00-10:30, Lunch from 12:00-15:30 and dinner from 18:00-21:00.

Our dress code for dinner is smart casual and we request that no shorts and sandals are worn.

FINE DINING

Our fine dining restaurant, Skye Bistro, uses only the freshest local produce available and is open seven days a week for hotel guests and day visitors in search of luxurious country cuisine with some modern infusions in a tranquil setting.

Skye Bistro is named after the Isle of Skye, largest and northernmost of the major islands in the Inner Hebrides of Scotland. From beautiful log burning fires in the winter evenings to watching the sunset from the veranda over the rolling lawns of Fordoun; Skye Bistro is the perfect place to have a relaxing sumptuous meal. From farm style breakfasts, lighter café style lunches to delicious dinners, Skye bistro captures the leisure of a bygone era. For the more health conscious to those seeking more decadent treats, we cater to all needs.

At Skye Bistro we use fresh, mostly local produce. The culinary team take great pride in preparing all meals with care and attention to detail.

Wine connoisseurs should be rather pleased with our private wine collection of over 63 local estate wines, sparkling wines and French champagnes all personally selected by owner Jon Bates.
