About Flames Restaurant at Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff
Flames restaurant, at the Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff, exudes class and elegance, with copper features, walls covered in art and a view of Johannesburg as backdrop. Book for a buffet breakfast or lunch, or order one of the seasonal menu’s standout meat dishes cooked on an artisan braai.
Start your experience with the zesty flavours and earthy seasoning of the grilled tuna with melon caponata, cucumber and olive oil emulsion, or the fresh, crisp calamari with chilli, lemon tzatziki, brinjal and smoked paprika aioli. The Knysna oysters with a chilli-and-gin dressing are also recommended, although they’re a little small and overpriced.
For mains, tuck into the carved Angus beef fillet, with a morel mushroom risotto, confit white onion and béarnaise – the juicy, still pink steak resting on the bed of risotto has a smoky flavour from the artisan fire. The Norwegian salmon, accompanied by a calamari Bolognese, saffron and basil, is a real palate-pleaser.
A small vegetarian selection is available, with the fermented potato piccata and oven-baked celeriac coming highly recommended. For the less adventurous, the burgers and pastas are value-for-money options with as much finesse as the meat dishes. The kids’ menu – fancy enough for adults too – offers hearty portions at very reasonable prices.
The dessert selection, though limited, is a highlight. Try the decadent tiramisu bar – a mascarpone delice bar with coffee jelly, Belgian chocolate sorbet and piped cherry gel. You can also choose from a few sorbets and ice creams, served with a crispy home-made wafer biscuit.
A brunch buffet offers a wide range of options to choose from, with a cold meat area, cereal, yogurt, sushi and oyster bar and a dessert and cheese station, while the lunch buffet – champagne included – expands on the morning buffet with more items and meaty dishes.
