About The Property

Epitomising relaxed sophistication, Umngazi is a place of
extraordinary energy, remarkable nature and vibrant culture.

Umngazi Hotel & Spa, is a beautiful beach resort, located on the Wild Coast, south of Port St John’s in the Eastern Cape.

A visit to Umngazi is a delight, from the wonderful welcoming staff to the tasty morning and afternoon tea offerings on the recently extended wooden deck.  The hotel has worked very hard to ensure the utmost safety of their guests, staff and community during this time of Covid.

Umngazi is the perfect spot for a completely relaxing holiday.  The kids are kept entertained with daily activities and there is a nanny service available for parents who would like to enjoy well-deserved quality time together.  A tennis court, a fully air-conditioned gym, SUP boarding, kayaks, walks, hikes, trails and an award-winning spa, located up on the hillside with breathtaking views, are all available for guests to enjoy.

Guests enjoy comfortable thatched accommodation with calming views of either the well-manicured gardens, the sparkling river or the wide-open ocean.  Umngazi’s romantic suites are perfect for those looking to indulge and reconnect with their loved ones.  These suites are situated close to the river mouth and have exclusive access to the Emlonyeni private lounge and pool deck.

MANGROVE & CWEBENI HIKE
Unique ecosystem!

See the Red, Black and White Mangroves in all their glory, plus a leisurely kayak trip through the swamps to the Umngazana River Mouth.

The Mngazana Mangrove is the third largest forest in South Africa. Bees are attracted to the Black Mangroves which has led to the formation of the Cwebeni Village Bee Farming Project, located on the hill above the Mangroves. The honey has a distinct sweet & sour flavour and is available for sale in the Umngazi shop (seasonal).

SUGAR LOAF HIKE

Breathtaking scenery!

The hike takes you along Sugar Loaf hill parallel to the Indian Ocean.

You’ll pass an area called Umblolombo where the famous Horizon Ship sank in 1967. The blue & red lights situated in the hotel bar were salvaged from this wreck. Wind your way down to the ocean or stay at the top of the hill and admire the views.
